Here are some things you can do:

If you are over 18…

You would benefit from the information and resources on our sister site Stop It Now! where you can get access to professional treatment and support for adults who are concerned about their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors specific to children. Click here to Get Help Now.

If you are under 18…

It’s likely that you might not be able to get access to help on your own, so you should think of safe adults in your life that you can ask to find a therapist or counselor for you to talk to. This person can help you to understand more about how to manage any difficult thoughts and feelings you’re having and learn safer behaviors online.

If you want to ask your parents or guardians to see a counselor but don’t want to tell them why, you can explain that you would like to talk to a therapist because there are some personal things you have been thinking about that you would like help with privately, some things that are making you (anxious, depressed, confused, etc. - whatever feels right). This FAQ: Where do I go to get help if I am under 18? gives some ideas about how to have that conversation.

If you are looking to make a report

If you have found us because you’ve come across something disturbing online or know about someone’s harmful or illegal behaviors with children, and you are looking to make a report, there are some steps you can take.

Cybertipline, funded by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, is one way to report online crimes against children including sexual images or videos of children on social media platforms. The information you give them will be passed on to the authorities for potential investigation. You can fill out the information right through their website or give them a call at 1.800.THE.LOST (843.5678).

If you know about someone hurting or abusing a child, you can also make a report to Child Protective Services (CPS). CPS is an agency that investigates child abuse by a caregiver, and their involvement can often be the best way to make sure that children stay safe. Before you make that call, you may want to read more about Reporting; You can find the number for CPS in your state here.
