Youth Advisory Council Application

In 2021, Stop It Now! launched a social media awareness campaign, as well as online resources and a helpline, to help support young people who have questions and concerns about their own sexual behaviors, thoughts and interests. Today, our award-winning service, What’s OK? continues to offer compassionate, shame-free, accurate information and support for questions that feel more concerning to a young person – such as wondering whether a sexual interest or thought is “normal,” or wondering if certain sexual behaviors mean that there is a safety risk, and similar types of questions. The resources offered include, but are not limited to, a confidential helpline where young people can call, chat, email, or text in a question and a website with easy to access information.

Youth Advisory Council Member Commitments

We know that our resources will be better and more accessible if we are informed by youth voices—both the design of the awareness campaign and in the website resources. The Youth Advisory Council primarily serves to test messaging for the social media campaign and new resource content on our website.  The experiences of youth in today’s digital world, as well as youth’s voices and insights are invaluable in understanding a teenager’s pathway through information.

Tasks may include:

  •  Inform the development team’s overall design of this project

  • Review social media and marketing materials, website content, and other resources being generated

  • Participate in discussions about what WhatsOK is learning from youth more generally

  • Contribute to our Youth Voices webpage

We seek a diverse council of youth and young people, some of whom have personal experiences with addressing their own or another’s harmful sexual behaviors and also some young people without these specific experiences.  At no point will the council discuss or share any sexually explicit materials.

Youth Advisory Involvement:

  • Size:  Up to 10 youth (ages 14-21).

  • Requirement:  Youth under 18 will need guardian or parental permission to participate

  • Commitment:  Ongoing communication through email. Up to 4 one-hour meetings, primarily in virtual (zoom) environments.

  • Reimbursement:  Each participant would receive a $100 gift card.

Stop It Now!’s Commitment:

We understand that any exposure to sexual terms can be triggering to some individuals.  If needed for any reason, resources and support will be available for any Youth Advisory Council Member.
